NRLA Lötschberg

The Lötschberg base route
The new trans-Alpine link through the Lötschberg has resulted in shorter, more reliable and higher-capacity north-south connections for both passengers and freight. Trains can travel through the new tunnel at speeds of up to 250 kilometres per hour, thus cutting travelling distances both within Switzerland and in Europe.
Journeys from the Swiss Midlands to the Valais, from Frankfurt to Milan and from the North Sea to the Mediterranean are now shorter by up to an hour.
