BLS: the company
BLS offers transport services on trains, buses and boats. In addition, it operates and maintains a railway infrastructure network which it makes available to other railway companies on a non-discriminatory basis. The centrepiece of this modern railway network is the Lötschberg axis, with its 34.6 km-long Lötschberg base tunnel, which became operational in 2007.
BLS is a legally independent group of companies that operates
mainly in the private sector. As an integrated rail company,
it unites the core businesses of passenger transport,
freight transport (BLS Cargo AG) and infrastructure (BLS
Netz AG) under one roof.
With a workforce of around 2,850 and a network covering approx. 900 km across seven cantons, BLS AG is Switzerland’s second-largest railway company.
