How it works

With the Tunnel Pass, you can conveniently pay for your BLS Car Transport Service journeys using prepaid credit. You receive an additional bonus with every top-up.

Your top-up options

  • Top up CHF 250.00 → CHF 50.00 bonus → CHF 300.00 total credit
  • Top up CHF 750.00 → CHF 450.00 bonus → CHF 1200.00 total credit

Good to know

  • Your topped-up credit is valid for 10 years.
  • The bonus is valid for 3 years.
  • The bonus is only used once your topped-up credit has been used up.
  • If you use your total credit within three years, you benefit from the full bonus.
  • Even if you travel less frequently, you will not lose any of the credit you have topped up yourself. It remains valid for 10 years. If the bonus expires after three years, you can continue using your remaining topped-up credit. You simply pay the regular fare from your credit without benefiting from the bonus.

The Tunnel Pass pays off for most customers from around 4 journeys per year. If you travel more frequently, you can benefit from an even greater bonus by choosing the higher top-up amount.

Example

If you travel on the Brig–Iselle route four times a year, your journeys over three years will have a total value of CHF 324.00. This generally allows you to use the full CHF 50.00 bonus.

Collect your Tunnel Pass card

After purchasing, you will receive a collection invitation with a QR code. You can collect your Tunnel Pass card at a staffed ticket counter in Kandersteg, Goppenstein or Brig.

Manage your user account

Easily manage your Tunnel Pass through your personal user account. You can check your current balance, top up your credit, check the validity of your credit and bonus, view all transactions and journeys, order a replacement card or block your card at any time.

Top up your credit

You can top up again when your total balance falls below CHF 150.00. If you top up before the validity period expires, your existing credit takes on the validity period of the new top-up.

Total credit

Validity

Topped-up amount 10 yearse
Bonus 3 years

Using your credit

When loading, your topped-up credit is used first, followed by the bonus.
Unused bonus credit expires after 3 years. The credit you have topped up yourself remains available until the end of the 10-year validity period. Cash payouts or refunds of topped-up amounts and bonuses are not possible.

How is your credit used?

The current fare is automatically deducted from your Tunnel Pass credit each time you travel. As prices vary depending on the route and fare category, the amount deducted may differ from one journey to another.

You can check your remaining balance and all charges at any time in your user account under “Transactions”.

Tunnel Pass credit cannot be used for purchases in the BLS webshop.

  • One Tunnel Pass can be purchased per user account.
  • You need your Tunnel Pass card as an access card to use BLS Car Transport Service. After purchasing, you will receive a collection invitation with a QR code. You can collect your Tunnel Pass card at a staffed ticket counter in Kandersteg, Goppenstein or Brig.

General terms and conditions for companies

  • To register and manage more than one Tunnel Pass in a single user account, you must register as a corporate customer.
  • To register as a corporate customer, you must submit an application in the BLS webshop using your company's Business Identification Number (UID).
  • Multiple Tunnel Passes can only be purchased and managed once BLS has reviewed and approved the company application. Processing usually takes around 5 working days.
  • To purchase, top up and manage tunnel passes, you will need a user account with a SwissPass login. The SwissPass login is used solely for logging in and identifying yourself in the online shop. You do not need a SwissPass subscription or a SwissPass card.
  • Important when creating your SwissPass login: The address may be in your company’s name. Where possible, use a general business email address so that access is not tied to a single person. Enter the name of the responsible contact person as your first name and surname, as SwissPass is a person-based system.
  • You need your Tunnel Pass card as an access card to use BLS Car Transport Service. After purchasing, you will receive a collection invitation with a QR code for each Tunnel Pass. You can collect your Tunnel Pass cards at a staffed ticket counter in Kandersteg, Goppenstein or Brig. Cards can also be collected individually, for example by the respective drivers.

Questions about the Tunnel Pass

Here you will find answers to the most important questions about the Tunnel Pass.

If you top up your Tunnel Pass with CHF 250.00, you will receive a bonus of CHF 50.00. This gives you a total of CHF 300.00 available for travel.

You benefit from the bonus from as few as four journeys per year. For example, a journey on the Brig–Iselle route costs CHF 27.00. Four journeys per year amount to CHF 108.00 in travel costs. Over the three-year bonus validity period, this corresponds to journeys worth CHF 324.00.

As the bonus amounts to CHF 50.00, you can make full use of it with this travel frequency. This is why the Tunnel Pass is considered cost-effective from as few as four journeys per year.

The Tunnel Pass is available exclusively through the BLS webshop. To purchase one, you need a user account with a personal SwissPass login for identification purposes. A valid address must be stored in your SwissPass login. One Tunnel Pass can be purchased per user account.

You can order the Tunnel Pass either with credit already loaded or without an initial top-up. If you order it without credit, you can load the desired amount when collecting the card at a staffed ticket counter. At the counter, you can pay using all common payment methods, including TWINT and Reka.

A user account in the BLS webshop is required to purchase a Tunnel Pass. In addition, the card must be linked to your user account and activated once when it is collected.

After activation, you can top up your Tunnel Pass at any time through your user account or directly at a staffed ticket counter.

To purchase a Tunnel Pass, you need a user account in the BLS webshop with a personal SwissPass login. One Tunnel Pass can be purchased per user account.

If you would like to manage multiple Tunnel Passes in the future, you will need multiple user accounts in the BLS webshop, each with a different SwissPass login and a separate email address.

A Tunnel Pass can also be ordered in the BLS webshop without an initial top-up.
The Tunnel Pass card must then be collected from a staffed ticket counter in Kandersteg, Goppenstein or Brig and topped up there for the first time. The Tunnel Pass is ready for use only after this initial top-up.

You can top up your Tunnel Pass online through your user account with all common credit and debit cards as well as TWINT, starting from an amount of CHF 150.
Alternatively, you can top up your Tunnel Pass at the staffed vehicle transport ticket counters in Kandersteg, Goppenstein or Brig. Further information can be found at bls.ch/tunnelpass.

Top-ups are only possible from CHF 150 onwards. This enables us to comply with legal requirements relating to customer credit balances, including anti-money laundering regulations, and to keep the administrative effort for management and accounting as low as possible.

Your user account gives you a complete overview of your Tunnel Passes at all times. You can view:

  • all your Tunnel Passes
  • the current balance of each Tunnel Pass
  • your journey history under “Transactions”
  • the status of your Tunnel Passes, e.g. ready for collection, valid or expired
  • top-up options when the balance falls below CHF 150.00, displayed with the status “Top up”
  • pending top-ups (next available balance)
  • available balance (active balance)

This allows you to manage your Tunnel Passes easily and access important information online at any time.

A SwissPass login is required to access your BLS webshop user account. The management of your username, password, two-factor authentication and personal login details is handled through SwissPass. The terms and support processes of Alliance SwissPass apply.

If you experience login issues, please contact SwissPass Support directly.

This message means that a Tunnel Pass is already linked to the SwissPass login you are using.

There may be several reasons for this:

  • You have already purchased a Tunnel Pass.
  • You signed in using the wrong SwissPass login, for example your private login instead of your business login.
  • You ordered a replacement card after losing a Tunnel Pass. The new card remains linked to the same user account.
  • You registered another person’s Tunnel Pass (e.g. your parents’ card) in your user account.

Important: Only one Tunnel Pass can be managed per user account. If you wish to manage multiple Tunnel Passes, you will need separate user accounts with different SwissPass logins, or you must apply for a company Tunnel Pass.

In your BLS webshop user account under “Transactions”.

Why do I need a SwissPass login for the Tunnel Pass?

To order, use and manage the Tunnel Pass, you need a user account in the BLS webshop. You sign in using your SwissPass login.
The login ensures secure identification and protects access to your personal credit balance. In your user account, you can check your balance at any time, top up credit and manage your Tunnel Passes independently.
Please make sure that the SwissPass login is registered to the person who uses and manages the Tunnel Pass.

How do I create a SwissPass login as a private customer?

If you already have a SwissPass login for public transport, you can continue using it.

If you do not yet have a SwissPass login, you can create one free of charge at swisspass.ch. Please make sure that you create the SwissPass login using your personal details (date of birth and address). The login must be registered to the person who uses and manages the Tunnel Pass.

For the Tunnel Pass, the SwissPass login is used exclusively for secure identification when accessing your user account in the BLS webshop.

Your Tunnel Pass contains personal credit. The SwissPass login ensures that this credit is uniquely assigned to you and protected from unauthorised access.

Can I create a SwissPass login even if I do not have a SwissPass account for public transport?

Yes. You can create a SwissPass login even if you do not have a SwissPass account for public transport.

For the Tunnel Pass, the SwissPass login is used exclusively for secure identification and access to your user account in the BLS webshop. Online tickets and your Tunnel Pass credit are stored neither in your SwissPass account nor on your SwissPass card.

Can I use my existing SwissPass login?

Yes. If you already have a SwissPass login for public transport, you can continue to use it.

However, you are not required to use your existing SwissPass login. If needed, you can create a new SwissPass login, for example for a shared household.

Where can I find instructions for creating a SwissPass login?

You can find all relevant information at swisspass.ch. If you need assistance, our Travel Centre taff will be happy to help you personally.

Can I create a SwissPass login from abroad?

JYes. A SwissPass login can also be created if you live outside Switzerland. You will need a valid email address and your personal details.

Do companies also need a SwissPass login?

Yes. Companies also require a SwissPass login to use the BLS webshop.

If you would like to manage multiple Tunnel Passes centrally, you need a company account. To do so, register your company in the BLS webshop using your Company Identification Number (UID). Once approved, you can purchase multiple Tunnel Passes and manage them centrally through your company account.

Why does my company also need a SwissPass login?

A login is required to use and manage the Tunnel Pass. As the BLS webshop is based on the SwissPass login system, it is also required for business customers. The login ensures secure management of credit balances and purchased products.

How do I create a SwissPass login for my company?

When creating the SwissPass login, you may use your company’s email address and postal address.

In the “First Name” and “Last Name” fields, please enter the responsible contact person rather than the company name. This is because SwissPass is fundamentally designed around personal identification.

The SwissPass login is used solely for signing in to and identifying yourself in the BLS webshop and is independent of your personal SwissPass login used for public transport tickets.

Important regarding the email address: As a company, you will manage your Tunnel Passes independently through your BLS webshop user account, so you need access to the associated SwissPass login. To ensure that this access is not tied to one individual’s personal login, we recommend creating a new SwissPass login using a generic company email address (e.g. info@company.com).

Your current balance, including any bonus credit, as well as the validity period of your Tunnel Pass, can be viewed at any time in your user account.

The amount you top up yourself remains valid for 10 years. The bonus remains valid for 3 years.

When using the Tunnel Pass, the amount you have topped up yourself is always used first, followed by the bonus.

Any unused bonus balance expires after 3 years. The credit you have paid for yourself remains available until the end of its 10-year validity period.

Cash payouts or refunds of credit and bonus amounts are not possible.

Yes. When you top up your Tunnel Pass again, the validity period of the existing bonus is automatically extended by 3 years.

Your topped-up credit is used first to ensure that the amount you paid in is fully used. The bonus is an additional benefit and is only used once your topped-up credit has been exhausted.

The bonus is valid for three years. Any unused bonus credit expires at the end of this period.

The credit you have topped up yourself is unaffected and remains valid for ten years.

The bonus is an additional benefit for frequent users of the car transport service. For this reason, the credit you have topped up yourself is always used first when travelling, and only then is the bonus used.

The bonus is valid for 3 years. On the one hand, this encourages customers to use their credit within this period. On the other hand, it takes into account legal requirements relating to the management of customer credit balances, including anti-money laundering regulations.

If you do not use the entire bonus within 3 years, you do not lose the credit you have paid for yourself. This credit remains valid for 10 years. The full benefit of the bonus is therefore available to customers who use all of their credit within the bonus validity period.

In short: The bonus rewards regular use of the car transport service. Customers who use their credit frequently can make full use of the entire bonus. Customers who travel less often still retain their self-funded credit for 10 years.

Refunds of credit are generally not available.

Your topped-up credit is valid for ten years. The bonus is valid for three years.

If you top up your Tunnel Pass while there is still credit available, the new amount will initially be displayed as “Next available balance”.

Your active balance (top-up amount and bonus) is always used first. Only once this balance has been fully used up will the next available balance automatically become your active balance and be used for your journeys.

The next available balance is displayed in light grey in your user account. This allows you to see at a glance which balance is currently being used and which balance will be used later.

Important: With every top-up of CHF 150 or more, the validity period of the existing bonus is extended by 3 years from the new purchase date.
