A tour through the old town
The old town of Brig is characterised by its well-preserved, historic buildings and narrow, cobbled streets. The charming squares, old houses and magnificent facades reflect Brig's rich history and offer an insight into life in centuries past.
The old town is home to the imposing Stockalper Castle, a baroque building from the 17th century with striking towers and beautiful gardens. Markets and events are regularly held on the central Sebastiansplatz, surrounded by historic buildings. The Parish Church of the Assumption of Mary, also from the 17th century, impresses with its baroque interior and frescoes. The quiet Capuchin monastery is located just outside the city centre and offers a magnificent view of the city. The local museum in Brig offers insights into the history and culture of the region.
Stockalper Castle
A jewel of baroque architecture
Stockalper Castle was built in the 17th century by Kaspar Stockalper, a wealthy merchant and politician. It originally served as a magnificent residence and as a symbol of the wealth and power of Stockalper, who played an important role in trade and politics in Valais. The castle is an important example of Baroque architecture in Switzerland and reflects the lavish lifestyle of its time.
The castle impresses with its imposing architecture, which is characterised by a large façade, magnificent decorations and a spacious inner courtyard. The elegant baroque elements such as curved window frames, ornate stucco work and magnificent halls are particularly noteworthy. The well-tended gardens and the beautiful inner courtyard add to the impressive overall architecture.
Today, Stockalper Castle serves as a cultural centre and museum. It offers various exhibitions and events focussing on the history of Valais, architecture and the life of Kaspar Stockalper.

Brigerbad thermal baths
Fun and relaxation
Brigerbad is one of the largest thermal bath facilities in Switzerland and offers a wide range of opportunities for relaxation and enjoyment. There are several thermal water pools both indoors and outdoors.
A particular highlight is the large Olympic-sized swimming pool, which can be used for both swimming and relaxing. There are various slides for the more adventurous, including the impressive 182-metre-long Alpa slide. In addition, a white-water river with currents provides a refreshing and enjoyable experience for the whole family. Children are also catered for, with a special area including shallow pools, water games and small slides. The wellness area includes various saunas, including a Finnish sauna, a steam bath and a bio-sauna, as well as special infusions and relaxation areas.

Simplon Pass
Simplon Pass nature experience
The Simplon Pass lies at an altitude of 2,005 metres above sea level and connects Brig in the Swiss canton of Valais with Domodossola in Italy. The pass, which is open all year round, is praised as one of the most beautiful Alpine crossings. The 9-metre-high Simplon eagle stands as a symbol of vigilance in memory of those who stood guard over Simplon during the Second World War. The Simplon Pass is a popular starting point for hikes and mountain tours. There are numerous well-marked trails that lead through the alpine landscape. In winter, the Simplon Pass is a destination for ski tours and snowshoe hikes, as the snow-covered landscape and the tranquillity of the mountains attract many visitors.

On the Stockalperweg
Experience spectacular views of the Alps, alpine landscapes and historical sites. The ViaStockalper (also known as the Stockalperweg) is a picturesque hiking route that leads from Brig over the Simplon Pass to Gondo. The route follows the historic paths that the famous Stockalper used for his trading trips. Particularly attractive are the well-marked trails that lead through varied landscapes, including forests, meadows and mountain passes. Ideal for hikers who are interested in history and nature.
