Lötschberg Base Tunnel

Immerse yourself in the heart of the BLS infrastructure

On this guided tour, you will learn many exciting facts about the construction and operation of the Lötschberg Base Tunnel. With a length of 34.6 km, it is the third-largest tunnel in Europe after the Gotthard Base Tunnel and the Eurotunnel and a masterpiece of railroad engineering.

Travel in comfort by train to Frutigen. The BLS Visitor Center is about a 5-minute walk from the station.

Programme

The tour starts at the BLS Visitor Centre in Frutigen. First you will get a first impression of the tunnel system and how it works by means of a model. We then travel by minibus to the north portal and visit the intervention staircase. The journey continues to Mitholz and we immerse ourselves in the fascinating world of the Lötschberg Base Tunnel. This includes a tour of the Mitholz technical centre, the 1:1 scale test track and an exclusive look into the railway tunnel, where the trains rush closely in front of us at 200km/h.
