Tickets are compulsory on all BLS trains
Travellers must buy their ticket before departure
The ticket obligation means that all passengers are responsible for having their own ticket. Customers must have a valid ticket before starting their journey (actual departure). The purchase and ordering process (digitally purchased tickets) and the purchase of the travel authorisation (check-in) must be completed in full before the actual departure. Tickets are not sold on the train.

Goodwill policy
Goodwill and exceptions for the following stops:
Lattigen bei Spiez, Eifeld, Burgholz, Ringoldingen, Weissenburg, Enge i. S., Weissenbach, Grubenwald, Hohtenn and Eggerberg
For passengers travelling from these stops, our travel companions will be accommodating, i.e. you will receive tickets without a service surcharge of CHF 10.00. The condition is that you proactively report to the travel companion staff on the platform/when boarding.
Exception: class and route changes on accompanied trains
On BLS* accompanied trains, it is still possible to buy a class or route change on the train without a surcharge. The minimum price for a class change is CHF 10. This is not possible on unaccompanied BLS trains. However, we recommend that you buy the class and route change BEFORE the train departs as scheduled. You can change classes online at bls.ch, via the BLS Mobile smartphone app, at ticket machines or at the ticket counter.
