Forward-looking fleet and infrastructure strategy – focus on sustainability and efficiency
BLS proactively procures and maintains vehicles and designs its train stations attractively. In this way, it guarantees maximum operational safety and creates positive experiences for its customers.
Sustainable fleet management
As part of this process, BLS focuses on the gradual standardisation of its fleet in order to increase its operating efficiency and achieve sustainable fleet management. Refits halfway through a vehicle’s service life can extend operating times to over 30 years. BLS is also modernising its old car trains by converting decommissioned suburban railway wagons into new railway carriages. The subsidiary Busland AG already put seven diesel hybrid vehicles into operation in 2018. Busland AG's Fleet Strategy 2030+ aims to achieve completely fossil-free operation by 2040 with the help of electric buses, among other possibilities. BLS Netz AG is concurrently also developing the construction train of the future to replace outdated construction service wagons and railway ballast wagons. This initiative takes environmental protection, energy efficiency and noise reduction into account. The planned switch from diesel locomotives to hybrid traction vehicles from 2028 will help to significantly reduce CO2 emissions.
