At the Berghaus Niesen Kulm, you can enjoy culinary and cultural highlights at 2,362 metres above sea level.

Those who like things cosy, culinary and captivating should visit the atmospheric Berghaus Niesen Kulm with its unique glass pavilion and large sun terrace. The appealing selection on offer ranges from a delicious breakfast buffet to a little aperitif, through to a romantic dinner under the full moon, a live concert, or a literary evening. And all this is combined with a magnificent view of Lake Thun and the surrounding mountains.

You can travel comfortably by train to the valley station of the Niesenbahn, where you can take the historic cable car to the summit. Are you travelling with children? Then choose a “storytelling trip” (Gschichtefahrt) for your ascent.

Enjoy the beautiful view on the sun terrace or in the pavilion over an aperitif, for example with Niesen beer, mountain cheese and house sausage. From 11.30 a.m. the Berghaus serves up fine delicacies for appetites large and small. The menu is varied and offers something for every taste, from Bärghuus soup to entrecôte with herb butter and all kinds of sweet treats.

Culinary evening trips

See out the day with a delicious meal on the Niesen. A varied selection of culinary evening trips is available to choose from, with something for every taste.

The buffet opens at 18.30 hours.on the scheduled buffet days. The final trip up the mountain is at 19.30 hours. and the last trip down to the valley is at 22.55 hours. You can find more information here.

Full moon dinner

Enjoy a five-course surprise menu of seasonal and primarily regional produce. Depending on the season, by candlelight or sunlight and by moonlight too, of course, in clear weather. Heidi Isler and Susanne Wäfler tell children the exciting story of the Niesen fox, the magical millstone and fox cubs Fay and Finn. Afterwards they can enjoy a snack at the summit.

Niesendörfli playground

In the Niesendörfli, a rustic playground made of wood, little ones can romp and play to their hearts’ desire while adults enjoy the magnificent view of the Eiger, Mönch and the Jungfrau. The Niesendorf village also plays an important role in the children’s stories about the Niesen, the tame fox and the magic millstone.

Mühlistein storytelling trip (German)

A special offer for children aged 5 to 8 with thrilling tales of the Niesen fox, a shared snack and fun and games in the Niesendörfli playground.

Niesen fox storybook (German)

The story of the Niesen fox who lights the Niesen light is popular with children. The book is available in the newsagents (on the mountain and at the valley station).

For hungry families, the Berghaus serves alpine-style macaroni cheese or chicken wings with French fries in a large bowl so you can help yourself.

How to get there

Travel in comfort by train to Mülenen. From Mülenen train station, it is just 200 m on foot to the valley station of the Niesenbahn. The Niesenbahn will then take you up the Niesen in 30 minutes.
