The tour begins at Place de l'Eglise, the highest point in the city, in front of the tourism office, and takes you to numerous picturesque places and monuments, as well as some attractions known only to the locals. At the end of the tour, you should take the time to visit the Roman Museum, which is well worth a visit. Here you will find numerous everyday objects from Roman times and archaeological excavations that are still ongoing in Avenches.

Avenches is easily and quickly accessible by public transport. The town center is about a 10-minute walk from the train station.

The Swiss National Stud

The Swiss National Stud is open all year round and can be visited thanks to a free nature trail. Interested groups of up to 25 people can take part in a guided tour. The guided tours last one hour and 30 minutes (CHF 150.-) during the week and one hour (CHF 100.-) at the weekend. You can find more information here.

How to get there

Travel comfortably by train to Avenches. The old town of Avenches, the Roman Museum as well as the Roman site are all in the immediate vicinity of the Avenches railway station and are easily accessible on foot.
