The Entlebuch Energy Experience

An energy-themed adventure trail

On different routes – through the varied landscape between Entlebuch and Finsterwald, partly following the wild Entlen river, through forests and past moors – you will find the six experience platforms on the theme of “energy”: River and Water, Light and Sun, Air and Wind, Gas and Fire, Forest and Wood, and Earth and Moor. On this varied hike, each station informs you in a playful way about the importance of the specific energy source for us humans. You’ll get interesting information, not only on the panels, but also brought to life through experiments and display items.

In addition, a variety of experimentation backpacks are available to borrow against a deposit at the information office. We recommend you reserve them online by 5.00 p.m. on the previous day at the latest. Information and reservation

At the information office, you can book an excursion leader in advance, who will be able to give you even more detailed information on the individual energy topics. Exciting and interesting explanations about history, the landscape and nature make the guided excursion an unforgettable experience – particularly for group and club outings! The 7 experience platforms

River and Water

Learn all about the “Farb” hydroelectric power station, which has been producing electrical energy since 1903 and initially provided power for the villages of Hasle and Entlebuch.

Light and Sun

Experiment with the solar glass and also learn the difference between the terms “photovoltaics” and “solar collectors” as you directly observe the installations on the farm and the cheese dairy.

Air and Wind

Let the melodies ring out with the seesaw-organ and marvel at the magnificent view and the impressive size of the wind turbines.

Gas and Fire

Explorers in Finsterwald expect to find a large deposit of crude oil; instead, they find natural gas at a depth of 4,370 m. Alongside this drilling plate, which is now an industrial monument, there is also, befitting the theme, a barbecue area with a grill and seating.

Forest and Wood

This platform vividly demonstrates how much wood individual buildings need as an energy source each year. There is also a lively presentation of the forestry and timber industry.

Earth and Moor

In the peat hut you can learn about the equipment used for peat-cutting during the two world wars when there was a lack of coal. This was then burnt in the ovens of numerous companies. In the peat-treading basin, you can get a true feel for the moor through your bare feet.

Additional Fun and Games platform

The energy play area in Farbschachen is almost worth a separate outing. From April to November, children can set in motion the flow of energy in the middle of the apparatus as they play on it.
