Hiking ticket Gryden circular mountain trail
20% cheaper to the unique crater landscape on the Betelberg in Lenk
The hike starts at the top station of the Betelberg cable car. The first part of the trail offers magnificent views of the protected Haslerberg moorland. On the north side of the Stübleni area is the bizarre, crater-like rock landscape known as Gryden. The subsoil in this area consists mainly of gypsum rock and, to a lesser extent, coarse rock. These rocks were formed about 200 million years ago.
The almost white gypsum rock is soft and therefore susceptible to erosion. Rainwater dissolves this gypsum rock, eating holes in it and then seeping into the subsoil. This gradually creates funnel-shaped depressions (solution dolines) on the surface of the land, giving the landscape its unique character.
