slowUp Emmental-Oberaargau

Set in an unforgettable landscape of gently undulating hills and typical farmhouses, during the slowUp event the main road will become available to anyone wishing to travel on it using whatever non-motorised form of transport they choose, be it by bike, skates or on foot. The slowUp Emmental-Oberaargau is a day to remember for everyone! It is an event for all ages and interests, for locals and visitors, for the sporty and less sporty, for couples and singletons, for gourmands and culture vultures. Along the route, visitors to the slowUp will find a diverse events programme that encompasses cuisine, well-being, skills tests, play, fun and entertainment.

Everyone can participate free of charge in the slowUp Emmental-Oberaargau.
The normal ticket prices (incl. for bikes) apply when travelling to the event by public transport.

Getting to the slowUp Emmental-Oberaargau
Travelling to Emmental by train is very easy from all directions. The travel time from Bern to Sumiswald is 50 minutes, with direct trains operating hourly. We recommend that you travel by public transport or directly by bicycle. BLS will increase seating capacity.
Because we will only be able to carry a limited number of bicycles on our trains, we recommend that you make use of the Rent a Bike Service.

By steam train
Enjoy a leisurely excursion from Sumiswald to Huttwil on the historic steam train of the Emmental Museum Railway. Please note the special timetable.
Tickets can be purchased at Sumiswald-Grünen, Affoltern-Weier, Häusernmoos, Dürrenroth or directly on the train.
Only second-class carriages, no seat reservations, limited seating capacity.
Notes
Impact on bus lines
During the slowUp, various roads are closed to motorised vehicles from 09.00 to 17.30 hours. This means that not all buses will be operating according to the normal timetable. There will be alternative routes and disrupted service on the lines 471, 481, 483, 491, 492, 493, 494 and 495. Please also observe the information at the stop.
Line 471 Hasle-Rüegsau – Affoltern-Weier
From 09.00 to 18.00 hours, the buses will not stop at the train station in Affoltern-Weier, but instead at a temporary stop by Restaurant Kreuz. No connections in Affoltern-Weier: the buses of Line 483 (Sumiswald-Grünen – Affoltern-Weier – Huttwil) will be cancelled from 09.00 to 18.00 hours without a replacement service. Please also observe the information at the stop. Diversion via Hasle-Rüegsau – Ramsei.
Line 481 Sumiswald-Grünen – Wasen i.E.
Line 483 Sumiswald-Grünen – Huttwil
No buses of Line 483 will be operating between 09.00 and 18.00 hours. The Emmentalbahn runs additional trains between Huttwil - Sumiswald-Grünen according to a special timetable. Diversion from Sumiswald-Grünen to Affoltern-Weier via Ramsei – Hasle-Rüegsau. Diversion from Sumiswald-Grünen or Affoltern-Weier to Huttwil via Hasle-Rüegsau – Burgdorf – Langenthal.
Line 491 Huttwil – Eriswil
From 09.00 to 18.00 hours, the buses of Line 491 will be serving a temporary stop by Ribimatte rather than Huttwil Railway Station. Please also observe the information at the stop.
No buses will be stopping at the “Huttwil, Stadt” stop. Please use the stop Cemetery and also observe the information at the stop.
Linie 492 Huttwil – Ufhusen
From 09.00 to 18.00 hours, the buses of Line 492 will be serving a temporary stop by Ribimatte rather than Huttwil Railway Station. Please also observe the information at the stop. No buses will be stopping at the “Huttwil, Stadt” stop.
Course 492 runs on Sundays by reservation only, ½ h before departure on 079 530 10 10.
Line 493 Huttwil – Wyssachen
No buses of Line 493 will be operating between 09.00 and 18.00 hours.
Linie 494 Huttwil – Erswil, Ahorn
